A guy offered me a Martin Silver Streak. He even has the external tank with it. Is it worth my time to get it? Can anyone give me a little info on these motors? I know nothing. Is it possible to get parts and get it running again? Thanks for any input. Metty

If you get it you can soon know a lot about it, Metty.

With perseverance you can find, first, a Service Manual. Then you can begin finding out what parts, if any, you need.

Someone here or on www.aomci.com will be able to tell you where to find them.

Martins were fine engines. I had one (7.5 if I remember right) that I liked a lot.

While I have your attention maybe you can help me understand something.

When writing of becoming the possessor of something like a boat or outboard iboats members almost never "acquire", "buy", "steal", "receive", "take", "purchase", "get", "find" or "possess".

They always "pick up" the item. Why is this? Some of those things must surely give a guy a hernia.

Are you kidding??? Man, if somebody offered me something like that, I'd be on it like flies on stink. Go get it if it isn't too late. If you don't want it, offer it to somebody that will appreciate it. (I'll give it a good home).

Wow, what a cool motor. I love the sight glass for the internal tank. He even had the external tank with connection hose. The tank looks to be it good shape. This motor looks to be very complete and not hacked on. Might be more to bite off than I am used to. Any idea what this motor is worth? This might be flair at my lake house or maybe sell it. I'm just good at carb cleaning and small stuff.

yes sir, that motor will take more than a carb cleaning.Magneto will be about 138 bucks, they had poor plastic coated ign coils ,40 bucks for carb kit,and while the carbs off,it will need new o-rings on the valves and it has 4, less than 10 .Water pump should be replaced, another 20 .They had some quality control issues and the end of production,Id go for a teardown and inspection of the powerhead....gasket and seal set around 35 bucks.Be sure and mark the valve locations as you remove them. The reward ? A fast and cool motor that even idles great and nobody else has one.:D:D

Ahhhhh yes. Good old Martins. Built by the National Pressure Cooker Company. JB, I bet yours was the Matin 75, if it was a 7.5hp The Matin 60 was a 7.2hp. I believe the Martin 200 was the 2hp model. One thing I love about these motors, was the fact they had poppet valves, rather than reed valves. The crank had lobes on it that opened the valve on the compression stroke. Springs in the intake manifold pushed the valve closed on the power stroke. I got one in on a trade for some repair work and it ran awful. Something made me look into the intake portion of it and noticed an 0-ring had come off of the poppet valve. Once I put it back together, it ran like a champ. I believe they used a WICO coil set up. which are quite hard to find. Wico coils are also common on West Bends and Kissels.

Actually the Martin 20 was a 2h.p. model.

The 200 Silver Streak was a 20 h.p. model. Some even came with racing lower units and challenged Mercury in Class B Hydro and Utility! :D

Oops. misread the post. By gollie you're right. My bad:D

Yea that 200 would be a nice collection piece. Truthfully, the 75 was the biggest Martin model I had.

Almost as lucky as me. One 1986 Evinrude 25hp and a 1974 Johnson 6hp on a 14 ft Sea Swirl P-14:D

Now THAT's a catch
