MaryKate on-off just before launching?

Bought a 6-yr old Maxum that was hauled and stored on the trailer every time he was done using it.

Left it last summer at my marina on Lake Erie and now I'm the proud owner of a Maxum that looks like it has 10yrs of hull scum that wasn't there at the beginning of the summer :)

Stored the boat indoors for the winter .. didn't have time to clean it properly first. I tried at the coin carwash but could NOT get it off, even with using toilet bowl cleaner.

When I go pick up the boat, I am planning to take it straight to the marina. My house is 30 mins out of the way, so I really don't want to bring it home. So I won't have access to the garden hose unless I plan to swing by the coin-op carwash (which is a bit of a hassle to squeeze the boat into as it is..)

So here's my plan:

Bought a bunch of MaryKate on-off
I have read about having to use a mask. I have a full respirator setup, but was thinking of just using one of the paper 'painters' masks just to be safe. Here's why....
I'm planning to get my paint roller tray (plastic) and handle, then put an 8' broomstick in the handle as an extension.
Planning to roll on the MaryKate all over the bottom half of the boat
Whatever is left in the paint pan at the end can be dumped over the outdrive (to catch the small crevices that I couldn't reach with the paint roller or possibly a paintbrush

Here's my question: I'm planning to do this at the marina just before I launch the boat. They have a huge gravel parking lot just a few feet away from the launch ramp.

Can I do this without a problem? I figure that running the boat in the water (to move it from the launch ramp to my slip) is way better than hosing it off with a garden hose anyway. And the boat will be left sitting in the water right after, so I would hope that the MaryKate will take everything off.

I can give it one quick scrub with a brush before I launch the boat if necessary.

Any thoughts? I was hoping to avoid the garden hose and just do a quick roll-on and splash the boat into the water.

Am I missing something or will this work?

Thanks!

I'll start this off by addressing just one problem. The paper painter's mask will do nothing to the vapors produced by using the On-Off.

I think I have been in the same shoes. I just used muriatic acid. WAY cheaper than marykate! Not sure if I should have but it did the trick. I would not feel right rinsing it right in the lake but my driveway is prolly not much better so I'm not gonna judge. Be very careful not to get it on your wheels or trailer for very long. Very harsh stuff! And with you needing to do the whole boat, vs a little at a time, then having to back it in the lake not sure it's in your trailers best interests. Best of luck though! :)

On-off is pretty tough, you don't wasn't to let it sit for long on the hull. Its much more effective to scrub with a deck brush and then rinse, doing small sections at a .time.

CRC Marykate ON & OFF Hull Cleaner Tips from Ship Shape TV - YouTube

Nasty stuff to use in a public place for sure. Then leaving the full strength residue all over the parking lot and the ramp so everyone else gets it on their truck, boat, shoes, etc..
Not to mention all the full strength drippings that are going to be on your own truck and trailer.
Take it home and do it right, keeping the driveway covered or at least wet the whole time.
Using the garden hose to dilute the product before any movement of the boat or protective plastic.

Besides, What are going to say to the ranger when he's writing out the fine ?

May or may not work, on the surfaces you coat.
Won't work on the surfaces you can not coat.
You won't know till fall when you take it out again, but by then it will be covered with crud again, so you will never know if it worked.

Will do wonders on the trailer.
Will draw attention from marina, dnr, and law officers.

Will be hard to provide first aid to skin and eyes if you or someone else are splashed.
Having had gel paint stripper in my eye, I know.

Too busy to take care of it last fall, and now too lazy to drive 30 miles to do it the right way.

you could leave the boat as is, hire someone to do it for you, or sell it.

Sounds to me like you are too lazy to use common courtesy to an honest question. Typical Cheesehead....

There, edited my post just for you.

By the way, I am anything but a typical Cheesehead...

Well take your grumpy, rude, sob self to the coin-op carwash and do your boat instead of putting that junk in the lake.
Clean up behind yourself at the car wash when you're finished with the boat.

You probably don't even need a mask or respirator if you think that stuff is harmless enough to dump in the lake.

Just put your boat in the water for a few days to soften the crud and it should come off with a good pressure washer.

Store the boat on the trailer where it belongs, unless you want to go through this twice a season.

Return the toxic chemicals for a refund.
