Bought a 6-yr old Maxum that was hauled and stored on the trailer every time he was done using it.
Left it last summer at my marina on Lake Erie and now I'm the proud owner of a Maxum that looks like it has 10yrs of hull scum that wasn't there at the beginning of the summer
Stored the boat indoors for the winter .. didn't have time to clean it properly first. I tried at the coin carwash but could NOT get it off, even with using toilet bowl cleaner.
When I go pick up the boat, I am planning to take it straight to the marina. My house is 30 mins out of the way, so I really don't want to bring it home. So I won't have access to the garden hose unless I plan to swing by the coin-op carwash (which is a bit of a hassle to squeeze the boat into as it is..)
So here's my plan:
Bought a bunch of MaryKate on-off
I have read about having to use a mask. I have a full respirator setup, but was thinking of just using one of the paper 'painters' masks just to be safe. Here's why....
I'm planning to get my paint roller tray (plastic) and handle, then put an 8' broomstick in the handle as an extension.
Planning to roll on the MaryKate all over the bottom half of the boat
Whatever is left in the paint pan at the end can be dumped over the outdrive (to catch the small crevices that I couldn't reach with the paint roller or possibly a paintbrush
Here's my question: I'm planning to do this at the marina just before I launch the boat. They have a huge gravel parking lot just a few feet away from the launch ramp.
Can I do this without a problem? I figure that running the boat in the water (to move it from the launch ramp to my slip) is way better than hosing it off with a garden hose anyway. And the boat will be left sitting in the water right after, so I would hope that the MaryKate will take everything off.
I can give it one quick scrub with a brush before I launch the boat if necessary.
Any thoughts? I was hoping to avoid the garden hose and just do a quick roll-on and splash the boat into the water.
Am I missing something or will this work?
Thanks!
