Going to start some tear out today - ceiling first. This is the last major thing we need to do to our home. Bought in '08, sat on it mostly for the first few years until we paid it off, then have gone pretty hard at it.

crap ton of new lighting
25 feet of floor to ceiling cabinets in garage
almost all new furniture, purchased, built and/or designed by me
kitchen remodel
and a bunch of other crap...


We are keeping the same footprint and general layout but since we have a 4'x 5' toilet cubby, we are shrinking up a bit and putting a door (maybe glass bifold, I got a guy), removing the standard tub / shower and replacing with a larger, ADA compliant zero entry with 5 maybe 6 shower heads and finally shrinking up our dual vanity by a foot or so (currently 6.5 feet long and I never use my side - I use a diff bathroom). Oh and a transom window in the shower for some natural light. Hope to be done by next (early) spring because I have a solar pool heater to build then. The older I get the warmer I like my pool.

So follow along to watch the horror unfold, tell me what I'm doing wrong or to just generally be bored.

First target, the fart fan. For reasons that are not legal in all 50 states yet, we've recently suspected that the fan was not correctly vented. Never got around to testing correctly. Good thing that we usually shower with the (french) doors open so no mold issues.

and I was correct:

Short run to get outside the home. Just irritates me the lack of sh.. this builder did for his own house. This is far from the first sketchy thing we've encountered.

since we are moving this wall I went ahead and removed one side of the rock since this was biggest mess day. Broke the shower head line. Dam brittle CPVC...

Couple things here. First is the original master plan was to shrink up the bedroom furniture which we did - https://forums.iboats.com/threads/next-project-a-floating-bed.742071/

Then we were going to bump out the master closet a foot or more. Wife decided the loved all the extra room (she added a reading chair and side table) so we didn't progress there. Glad we did because I wasn't sure but yep, the closet wall was load bearing. This pic shows the span from the point load over to the wall.

Also here is plenty of electrical to access for the two new fart fans. Moving the current one and adding one for the new WC. I'll be moving 400 CFMs in a 150 sq ft room if needed....

today will be to cut an access hole in the floor in front of the vanity so I don't have to crawl the house doing the next steps. Plus there will be much planning involved on the plumbing and the joists. Since dropping to zero entry and this being the start (highest) part of the drain system, lowering the joists that have existing plumbing touching the underside poses some challenges and I paid to have the upstairs bath tied in (so I could concentrate on the overall build) not sure quite where that ties into. The crawl opening is as far away as it could be so just a few screws and dropping into work zone is going to be nice.

Not a lot of 'pretty' action going to happen for the next month as we have both airbnb rooms booked for Bonnaroo and wife wants our bath to be functional so we don't have to share. but the planning and prep work should be effective.
