On my master bath remodel I know I said that would be my last interior project but apparently I like to lie.

Wife on business travel next week so planning a surprise for when she gets home. Pulling out the basic wire racks and replacing with melamine stuff. Pull down clothes hangars so the storage that most closets have up high will now be down low as these will go all the way to the ceiling. Adding a in wall hidden gun safe and an in floor fireproof safe plus a couple extra hidden areas so if yall in TN, stop by and rob me.

I've been planning for weeks, online parts ordered and in (secretly) and Home Depot order placed for pick up Monday morning after she heads to airport. Have potential help semi lined up if needed.

so I think I have all the basics lined up.

That leads me to my question(s) for this post. Has anyone done this? Any regerts? (yes I misspelled). If not done one but have thought about it, any crazy a.. ideas that yall want to throw out at me?

Tammy is in the reclaimed barn wood style can't help with the melamine. However make sure there is enough shoe space

yep, adding about 25% more of that although AC is a true southern girl and about half of her 'shoe' collection is flip flops.

I have a client who is friends with a logger up on the mountain so i will get cedar scraps to line the back wall of the area with. Prob won't get that done by the time she gets home that will have to wait until the sisters and mamma trip to STL in June.

Interested in seeing how you do the in wall safe. Will it accommodate both long and hand guns?

yeah it can i'll be keeping my two long guns in it. The glock stays close to my sleeping area. It is really more of a locker than a safe. The floor safe is an actual safe that will keep the important papers, cash and passports and such.

I bought it about a decade ago just never had a good spot to put it so they have always just been on the floor in their padded sleeves. We keep a chest of drawers in the closet that will stay so planning on putting behind that to hide it. I'll keep the chest on furniture moving pads so slides out easily. Don't use them often in fact never have shot the rifle and the 20 ga only comes out a couple times a year when i have to thin the flock of pigeons at the barn which I'll be doing later this month when the heathen comes to stay during spring break. His dad is not in the picture since he was about 9 and grampa died a couple years back so i fill both grampa and dad roles for him and that includes shooting. He is an accomplished fish catcher and generally places well in local tourneys, including BASS. I've posted him here previously.

Are you asking if it would be lucrative for you to contract to do custom closets jobs. Only you can answer that. Building closets with compartments, cubbies, shelving. Isn’t rocket science. Like cabinet work you will need a decently equipped wood shop for fabrication.

My house has all cedar lined closets and built in 1969. All the smell is gone but still looks good

Yeah mine is about the same age.. and I can get the smell back for a little while by sanding it but it doesn't last long... still looks good!

well this reminds me I never put up final pics. Still waiting on her to decide how many more shelves she wants - we are kinda out of stuff to put on shelves. We've done some 'getting older and joes never going back to corporate life' purging on the closet
