max load in back of boat

I have a 2001 trophy 2359 (polit house) I had a problem with water getting into the engine exhaust and freezing up the engine, the surveyor from the insurance company could not find the reason for this to happen, believe me he tried, he went back twice and last time he took a boat mechanic friend of his with him, here's what they came up with, too much weight in the back of the boat causeing water to flow into the engine compartment, I have a bait tank on the rear full weight about 250lbs two friends fishing about 400 lbs, so about 650 give or take. question ? does anyone know were I can find how much weight is allowed on the back of the boat, befor it will take on water.

what engine do you have, the exhaust has flaps inside that are ment to help keep the water from backing up into the engine. if you have the vortec engine the valve overlap will let it suck water if water is present. do you have the original exhaust mainifolds, or have them been replace, and if so, with OEM manifolds. sudden stops also puts water pressure on the exhaust.

Agree on sudded stops. Bass boats are really bad about that with usually 3 large batteries, and 20+ gallons of fuel right in front of the engine and right in front of that a 30 gallon (thereabouts) live well.

If you are planed out and dump the throttle, very few will come to a stop without water coming over the transom.

What you have to do is cut the throttle, but not all the way. Maintain some power so that the back wash comes in slowly. Once it hits the transom, then you can cut her to idle.

On how much weight it too much, part of the equation is what is forward to counterbalance it and lots of other things including back wash from stopping, following seas or what. Not an easy question to answer.
