I OWN A 14.07 FOOT BAYLINER CAPRI 1985 MODEL, I CURRENTLY HAVE A 50HP FORCE OUTBOARD, THAT I WILL REPLACE , I AM CUTTING THE CABLES OFF JUST TO GET THIS DARN THING OFF MY NICE BOAT , ANYWAYS I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM HORSE POWER THAT THIS BOAT CAN HANDLE? AND ANY WEIGHT SPECS CONCERNING THE NEW ENGINE? I AM PLANNING ON GETTING A 75HP MERCURY OUTBOARD WITH TRIM AND TILT, WILL THAT BE O.K, SOMEONE TELL ME THE MAX HORSE POWER I CAN GET WITH OUT TAMPERING OR FLIPPING MY BOAT

BigBux...I would be thinking the 50hp range is already the Max HP. You might want to check with a Bayliner dealer though.

TMD

Hi BIGBUX: I have a 1989 15ft. Bayliner Capri with a Force 50 on it. Yellow Coast Guard sticker by driver's seat says following: MAXIMUM CAPACITIES: 4 persons or 600lbs, 1000lbs persons, motors, gear, 50hp motor. If your new motor is heavier and also more powerful, you could run into serious trouble. I am no boat expert, but from what I hear about Bayliners, they are not exactly built like tanks, and putting more weight and stress on the transom might get you into deep doo-doo. I would try for a later model, lighter weight 50hp motor which would probably outperform the Force anyway. Best of luck!

I wouldnt put more than 50hp on this thing.Your going to run into more problems, some which could be uncomfortable and even dangerous. If your looking for more speed get a better boat, bayliners aren't really known for their solid construction anyways.

Though not a bayliner, I have a 15'2" Tempest, which is not much bigger, and it is rated for 110hp/5 persons. I would check with Bayliner and ask them. All right for people to say get a new boat, but not all could afford that option. I unfornatly, like you have a 50hp force (1996) on my boat - not near enough power. Just wondering how miles you can get cruising (15-20mph)?
