Can anyone tell me if Maxum and Bayliner are the one in the same brand. I've owned it for about a year but still don't know its pedigree. Its 1989, 19 footer with a 125 Force. Imported 2nd hand to N.Z......................Thanks Mike.
Bayliner, Maxuum, and Sea Ray are all owned by the same company called Brunswick. Bruns also owns Mercury.<br /><br />Here's their website: http://www.brunswick.com/boating.html <br /><br />In order of pleasure craft quality, Brunswick's bottom entry is Bayliner. The upgraded bayliner is Maxum. The top pleasure boat they make is the Sea Ray. Baja at the very top end is high performance.
Thanks, good link. The Bayliner seems to cop a bit negative response on this forum. The brand Bayliner is well recieved in N.Z. and seen as a premium boat. The Maxum is a virtual unknown. Does the Maxum attract the same bad press among American boaters as Bayliner and is it justified?
i,ve owned two maxums a 89 open bow 19ft with a 125 force it was a great boat ,lots of storage, i would say its a step up from the early bayliners up two 1992.the the other maxum was a 21ft. open bow with the 120 l-drive in it .it was just about the same ,nice boat .if you get one with the force motor ,us good oil and never run wot always 3/4 and it will last you for ever .i think .and if you leave it the water for any period of time seal the bottom ,because it will blister. good luck
I carefully read a J.D. Power survey on 15 brands of runabouts recently, assuming it was not biased. On top was Cobalt, then Crownline, follwed by Chaparral and SeaRay. As many of us would suspect, Bayliner finished last of the 15 in all 5 categories of the boat ratings, which cover things like over-all quality and reliability, ride & handling, etc. Of course the price differential between Cobalt and Bayliner is huge.
