Hi everyone

I need a little bit of assistance. I was wondering if anyone had any good or bad information on Maxum Boats. I currently have a 19ft Searay and am looking to up size. I went and looked at a 1997 23ft Maxum 2300 SCR. other than the merlot colour being faded a bit the boat appears to be in amazing condition. The boat has a 5.7L carburated mercruiser with an alpha 1 gen 2. I am not really familiar with Maxum boats so just looking for a little input.

Thank you

Re: Maxum Boats

Its all a matter of opinion. Maxums are agood boat for the buck.

However,

RED boats scare me.

I use to have one for ten years.

You must constantly wax it to keep it from turning PINK.

If the waxing does not bother you and or a pink boat does not bother you....go for it.

Re: Maxum Boats

I have a 1994 maxum 2400 SCR and love it. I would recommend. having said that, I just posted a question in today's threads called "Y" pipe hole. If any Maxum owners could check that out and let me know your opinons, i would really appreciate it.

I know the guy asking about Maxum's may think they are bad boats because I just posted a problem bu, in the four years i have owned the boat, this is the first problem I have had.

Re: Maxum Boats

my dad has a 1994 2300SCR open bow. Its a great boat. handles extremely well in rough weather, tons of storage room everywhere. his has the 2 barrel 5.7. its not the fastest boat, but it still pulls skiers and tubes all day long.

Re: Maxum Boats

I have a 2006 2600se which I bought new as a dealer leftover. This is my second season with this boat. I had a few minor electrical problems which the dealer remedied immediately ( a bad breaker was the culprit). What has been a problem is the canvas. I had two zippers fall apart on me and a seam on the Bimini open up, all repaired, but an annoyance.

Notwithstanding those issues, the boat runs very well. It has a Mercruiser 5.0 MPI engine with a Bravo 3 outdrive and we are very happy with the boat. All systems otherwise perform well, and I do recomend the boat.

I just wanted to give you a heads up of what kind of problems you might want to look for.... espepcially the canvas.

Best of luck to ya!

Re: Maxum Boats

It's a 12 year old boat, so you can see how it's held up. For 10+ years old, CURRENT CONDITION is the key.

Maxum's are not the best made boats, not the worst either. I find they have very useable layouts and storage, etc. Similar to Bayliners in hull design (I think they are the same now) except higher quality materials, etc. which makes a big dif. in durability of the vinyl and the like.

If it runs excellent and the interior has been kept up I wouldn't hesitate to buy a maxum.

If you really care about a new looking, shiny hull then I agree with a previous reply that red is one of the worst gelcoat colors to keep looking sharp once it's faded.
