Try an Air Chair! I'm 51 years old and can go quite awhile before getting tired. Only tricks i try are small bunny hop jumps, but it's alot of fun.

Re: May have to hang it up

I just turned 30. Mine was a freak accident. I think my combination of too long a rope, bad wake, and nasty chop. See Video.

Its a tough sport, if you think you're not going to get hurt, you're kidding yourself. I'm blessed with the right circumstances in my life that if/when I get hurt and get stuck off work, I won't get killed with bills. I'd say, if you have a family to support or living paycheck to paycheck, do go for big air, stay on the surface right behind the boat.
I've always wanted to try that air chair, I might try and pick that thing up til I get my strength back up to hit the board.

Sheeesh!!! You guys have me thinking that maybe I should stay on the boat! I'll be 55 this Dec. This is my second season of boarding. So far, it's only surface 180s and w2w jumping for me at 18-20 mph. A few face-plants have happened but nothing that REALLY hurt me.

RE: Helmet, it wouldn't have stopped this concussion. Helmets prevent internal injuries from external sources (head hitting a rail), this was purely internal (brain v skull).

I'm only 25, I hadnt thought about the risk of breaking bones i can't really picture how any sort of landing on water could create that kind of impact force. Ouch! I took this passed weekend off from riding to let my neck heal. Still have a nagging head ache at the base of my skull, getting better but i thought i'd give it another week or so.

Good to know we got all these "seasoned" riders out there haha, gives me promise for my "golden years". jk

I'm 47 and I'm loving this newfound sport -- both boarding and wake surfing, plus it's a great way to share fun times with my girls, 9 and 10. I'll give it up when I can't walk! Work hard, play harder ...

Wish you the best recover Fever!

Thanks WakeMe! I'm 2 weeks in and my neck is still bothering me. This accident may have been a blessing in disguise. When they did a CT scan to check my neck they found a 3" diameter cyst on my brain! I go in two weeks from now so they can figure out what's going on. If this didn't happen we would have never found the cyst.

Did a face plant off the knee board last year trying to go w2w that knocked me out. I was out until the boat came back and picked me out of the water. What a headache!!!!!! 20 minutes later I was back trying it again.. I had too it was the best water we had all year and I did not want to miss out. stupid stupid me!!!!
Not really diggin the wakeboarding but really enjoy the wakeskating. Last week I tried the wakesurfing and think I will enjoy it if I can find the sweeeeet spot. (age 37 and round in shape)

Re: May have to hang it up

I'm shocked I've never gotten a concussion ( knock on wood), I had many of them playing Rugby in college and maybe just dumbed my brain down enough to where these quick nasty spills aren't hurting my brain anymore.

Then again, if I know I don't have enough rotation and am going to beef it... I normally just let the rope go and try to land on my back so my vest takes the impact.

Re: May have to hang it up

This discussion makes me wonder just how many times I have damaged my brain from falls! I've taken some nasty falls to bob back up feeling incoherent ... although, my wife might say that's my natural state.

Thank you!

Alright guys. Dr's orders - no more wakeboarding, quad riding, mountain biking........ until further notice. I had an MRI done and the cyst is much larger than the CT showed from the inictial incident. Any sudden stop of the head could cause the cyst to rupture which would cause internal bleeding in my skull.

It has been there for some time. The amount of time is unknown. But it's growing on the balance portion of the brain and the Dr's ran a bunch of tests and my balance is fine. From what they told me is it's been growing with me over the years. It's also the cause of the blood pressure related headaches I've been getting for 5+ years.

I find out at the end of this month if any corrective action needs to be taken. It isn't life threatening the way it is but like I said could be during head trauma.

So your right fsjcowboy! I can say that wakeboarding may have saved my life!
