May need to replace 1992 Merc Alpha outdrive.

I have a Alpha Gen 2 outdrive. Can I replace it with any year used Gen 2 outdrive or must I stay within a certain year range?

You need to keep the same gear ratio other than that they should be the same.

If you are shopping for a replacement, be sure to look at the Sterndrive Engineering outdrives as an alternative. They are sold here on iboats. Great product and great price.

+1 if you want new with a 3 year warranty and probably won't cost much more than a used merc. one.

Brand new aftermarket Gen 2's on Iboats run about $1500.00 with 3-year warranty!
