I don't believe so, either. Try the trick with your hand over the prop and see what happens.

Well I just got home with a new starter SO once I go back out and install theat here shortly I will try the hand of the prop But I think it is only when you would have water backed all the way up in the exhaust so I am thinking the hand test it will start everytime.

Maybe, but you should at least be able to replicate the back pressure the water would create in the exhaust and at least eliminate the backpressure theory, although, like I said before, you may have to block off the two little holes up at the transom ***'y as well to accurately test the system.

Speaking of the transom assembly exhaust holes. When you run the engine on muffs have you noticed where the exhaust and water exists? Does it ALL come out of the prop, or is there also some exhaust exiting out of the relief hole on the transom assembly ?

While running on the muffs it comes out the prop and at the bottom half of the transom. almost all the water comes out from the bottom of the transom and Alittle spits out of the prop. I am going to head out in the garage and get the compression readings and vaccum readings. I was also thinking If i went to the lake and when it will not start could I unhook the 90's that are right before the flappers and just kind of let them face down and try to start it if it starts then I know for 100% sure it is a back pressure issue I could try the marine cam idea or maybe think of installing through hull exhaust. I am not real sure what consists of that or about what that would cost to do. I will post the numbers for each cylinder and the vaccum reading's aand see what you guys think is the problem.

okay well bigger problem I tried today to start the boat with the new starter and it made a really bad noise so i removed the starter to see what happened and found that the hole nose cone on the brand new starter was broken clean off and the housing was cracked all the way down it. So know I have to figure out what happened with that did I get a bad starter or was it the wrong one I looked them over and they looked the same so I am not real sure what happened.

yea got it all fixed I replaced the cam and lifters with a close to stock marine cam. i posted it in the other thread i started with the back pressure issues.
