Asking this question here to save having to watch the local marine mechanic double over with laughter... I have an 06 Sea Ray 250 SLX with a Merc 320 HP engine and a single prop (Alpha 1?) outdrive. Is it possible to upgrade to a Bravo 3 with duoprops?

It's possible, but awfully expensive, and not that great of an advantage for the money, IMO.

Wow thanks for the super fast response... What's "awefully expensive"? $2K, more????

if it is a bravo drive it is the cost of a lower unit and props plus labor.
if it is an alpha drive you need to replace the whole drive.

I seriously doubt you have an Alpha I Gen II outdrive on a 2006 320HP engine. Since Merc has a 300 hp max on the Alphas. NOW, assuming you have a Bravo I or even a Bravo II single prop outdrive, it's still going to be expensive. The SS dual props alone are around 1500 bucks. then a new lower unit is expensive compared to the props. Usually you can find a new Bravo III lower for around $5500

Now, if you actually have an Alpha I Gen II, you would have to replace EVERYTHING but the engine. Transom shield, and outdrive.
Now, you are getting into big bucks, and a lot of work. Way over you 2K limit.
