Hi
I'm looking to upgrade to an "older" direct drive that I could use for sking and wake sports - I found this boat for sale.

http://medicinehat.kijiji.ca/c-cars...ats-MB-Tournament-Ski-Boat-W0QQAdIdZ221327516

What do you all think?

I couldn't find much info on MB - but from what I did read they sound like a good company - quality boats.

Should I be worried though buying an older boat from a small company when it comes to finding parts?

The low hours (if true) would seem to be a big plus.

Anyone know if a tower would be an easy fit? - or if there would be room for a balast bag in the back?

- I heard someone here has an MB and loves it! -

Thanks for your thoughts

Looks like a nice unit, and the price appears to be in the ball park. Open bow is nice. The wake board pole will come in handy. I think you'd be happy with it. I know I would (I am!) My boat is very similar, only I have a tower (It's not an MB, but same style of boat).

No offense, but only in style, not in strenght or quality.

MBs are all hand made... hand laid fiberglass, not sprayed. They only build about 300 units a year... simply because thats what they can build without sacraficing quality or build specs.

try looking at www.mbsports.net

No a lot of info out there, because there are just not that many of them. However, I know the newer ones use PCM running gear... many other boats use them so parts to keep you running are not hard to come buy. Older ones may have used a different brand, but it would have been a mainstream engine maker.

You will not regret buying an MB, I know I haven't.

Also, if you need anything specific, try calling the factory. I bet you speak to a Brendel.... try getting that with Mastercraft, Malibu, or Skier's Choice (Supra/Moomba).... they are still family owned and operated... and small enough you can still speak tot eh family. MB = Mike Brendel... You also may spek to Irv or Dustin Brendel if you call them.

Sooo...Hand made isn't a good thing? - I was hoping that it was. Bit confused you said that MBs are not great in strenght or quality but then said that I wouldn't regret buying one????
Thanks

You mis-understand me. Hand made is a great thing for build control. Plus tha hand laid techniqu is a thicker layup than sprayed so you get a stonger heavier boat. You will appreciate this in choppy water.

Quality wise... they offer the best warranty in the bis... you can't do that with a sub par product. The warranty on my vinyl is longer than Moombas Hull warranty. Lifetime on Hull/deck/exhaust/gages. 3 years on the gel coat for any defects (blisters,cracking/fading) etc.

You should really check out their website to get a feel for the company. From and Engineering prospective, they are one of, if not the best built boats on the water in the watersports category.

Carso, this popped up on my radar. Something more in line with your original price range. Not open bow though. Can't tell much about condition from the crappy photos. May be worth a look if you are in the area.

EDIT (WRONG LINK IN INITIAL POST): http://reddeer.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...Boat-with-350-Chevy-Engine-W0QQAdIdZ221871193

Kyle - not sure what to say. You read WAY too much into my comment.

I think my boat is fine. You say MBs are better, that's fine too. All I know is I love my boat, I love the brand, and I'd buy a new one budget permitting in a heart beat.

I figured I should come back and add this, because it's true:

Having said what I said above, if an MB were available in my price range instead of the Moomba, I definitely would have bought it. If it had come down to deciding between a Moomba and an MB though, I think the way I went would have dependedon on condition, then features, then luxuries. I wouldn't have been aware that MBs were hand made at the time, though it's good to know now.

So, thanks!

Hi
thanks for letting me know about the boat in Red Deer - I'm in Didsbury so it is definately in my area. - not quite what I am looking for though.

Great to hear that hand made is good and that MB = quality. I did check out their site - very impressive but it is always better to hear from someone who actualy has touched one.

Will do my best to check out the one I found - am tempted to go shop in Oct. though and try to find a "deal" - not sure if I would be happy if this one "got away" though - I saw another nice one that had a good price and it sold the next day - oh welll - if its not meant to be....

Hah nice. I bought my Moomba from a guy near Didsbury. He brought it up to Sylvan so I can test drive it.

August/September are great times to buy. Leave yourself time to try it out!

Also yeah, that Gecko (or whatever) isn't a wakeboard boat no matter what the owner calls it. But it's cheap, and might be in fine shape.

The price is nice but I don't think I could get over the pea soup green - must be an aquired taste!

Tell me to stop anytime Carso -

This one has a cracked block unfortunately. How easy it is to fix depends on how handy you are I suppose or what resources you have available (i.e. friends you can blackmail :D)

Anyway, I happen to be looking for an older ski boat for my dad, plus my coworker is considering buying a starter boat. I also just like looking at boats.

It's very rare that I find an MB available. There actually was one listed on Kijiji earlier this summer in Sylvan, but it's not listed anymore.

I sure like their new name, MB Sports better than the old Ski Brendella name, I just couldn't get used to that name, even though some of their early boats looked exactly like my old malibu skier.

Oh never made that connection! The first few ski boats I wanted to offer on were Brendellas. Missed both by hours. I always liked those boats and I love the name.

Not the same company. Ski Brendella is now Calabria... Mike Brendel was involved, but starte dhis own Company MB Sports... the guy (forget his name) that kept ownership of Ski Brendella (Calabria) eventually sold out to investors and now own Wake Craft.

Irv and Mike Brendel use to build/race Hondo's in the 70's.

Re: MB boats - what is your opnion in general and of this one?

I googled around a bit and got some of that story. I "heard" MB was an owner in Brendella that sorta got ousted. So he sued for his name back, at which point he either won or they settled and changed to Calabria, and I think eventually Hydrodyne?

Anyway, there's no mention of Ski Brendella on the MB website. Sounds like a chapter that he's done with.

I found 4 Brendella units for sale in and around Calgary right now on Kijiji.

There is also the wave of Ski Brendellas that were called Alpina right before the transition to Calabria.

Yup, I have read and heard... but not been able to find any real evidence.. there was some embeselment, drugs, felony arrests involved in the split up... but do not know on which end or if any of that is true.

Just as another reference on the quality of the MB's, I own a 2006 B52 V23 and love every thing about it. I've had it since it was brand new and am continually amazed by it. A very nice boat. Good luck with your purchase Carso.
