Hi Everyone.. So I had the chance last night to pull my outdrive from the boat. It went really well actually for it's age :)

I have a few questions please if you don't mind......

1. When I did take it off I found a bunch of metal in the water outlet from the gimbal to the outdrive as you can see in the picture below..

I am thinking this is a collapsed hose?? Or something else maybe?

2. Here are a few more pics.. I would like to split it again and go over everything. Are there certain areas I should pay close attention to? Also parts I should replace while I have it apart? Should I take it completely apart and clean, power wash, etc.? The bellows all look really good. I am pulling the motor and putting it in another boat so I will need to pull the gimbal housing, etc to do the swap. Would I be better off to get a new bellows kit?

Thanks for all the advice and help with this one :)

looks like the cast iron manifolds are scaling badly, water in the shift cable pocket may mean new seals for the shift shaft and a new shift cable

If I take the manifolds off, can they be cleaned up and re used? I will have the engine out and on the bench so I can go over everything.

Ayuh,.... That looks like a nasty ole saltwater barge,..... Rough,....

The problem with cleanin' up yer manifolds, 'n reusin' 'em is,....
All that scale Used to be cast iron, now the manifolds are Toooo thin,....
Catastrophic motor failure if they leak,...

Salt water? Hmmmmmm. It's been here in Ontario Canada as far as I know for at least 20 years. What can I do about the manifolds? I bet they would be pretty expensive to replace no? When I pull the engine I will take the manifold off and get some pics for you guys. Fingers crossed they are ok.

Well I got the manifold off yesterday... It looks fine. It is the riser that has failed. The walls are falling apart inside.. I am looking for a new manifold and riser though just to be safe. It's pretty hard with these older engines to find parts :( I have a few people though that might be able to help me out.. I put some oil in the cylinders to be safe since there was a bit of water in the exhaust manifold from the failure of the riser.. I can post pics if anyone wants a looky at what the riser looks like.

Thanks for the help guys!!!
