Just wondering some other users thoughts of the Mcguard prop locks?

Worthwhile investment? Waste of cash if key is lost / stolen (unless papers with code are handy of course)? Difficult to install or remove? Possible to damage prop shaft? General concerns if any... etc.

Reason being is, my uncle a few years ago has had a prop stolen off his boat. It was sitting in shallow (knee deep) water in front of our cottage, so it was very easy to access and remove it. Now that I have a "new to me" used boat and I too would like to park it out front of our cottage in the same depth of water, I have been worried about prop theft also.

The prop that is on there now isnt very inviting (as far as im concerned) to warrant being a worthwhile item (paint is worn away, but there are no dings). However, if I had to replace the prop sometime this summer for whatever reason and installed a new prop, then a shiny, new black prop would be inviting.

thanks for all replies.

Re: Mcguard prop locks..

Hi, I have been using a McGuard prop lock for a few years now and wouldn't be without one. I'm running SS props and I have one that's B&B, and I wouldn't want any of them to go missing. As for loosing or misplacing the lock key, the consequences are no different than loosing a key for any other kind of lock. It must be replaced to get it or in this case get the prop off. Easy to install and unistall, makes prop changes a breeze.
