Re: McKenzie Boat Mfg. Co. ?????

Clayton,Thanks for doing so much homework. I tried to track them down and had no luck, you must have perseverance and it paid off. I have a 1959 that I am restoring and have posted pictures of on a previous post. The information and decals are priceless to people who own these boats so hang onto them and hopefully you can reproduce them. I e-mailed you and would like to see your boat and know what information the owner shared with you. Thanks Clayton !

Re: McKenzie Boat Mfg. Co. ?????

Please contact me. My father and I made his boat into a fishing boat back in 1979 or so and i can post pics. I have been searching for a match as i asked for the boat when he passed a couple of years ago and couldn't bear to part with it. The steering column was a dead give away for my dads boat along with the prow. and stern shots.

Re: McKenzie Boat Mfg. Co. ?????

Here are some shots of my dads old boat. I am going to start tearing out all the decking and stripping her down to the hull in the next few days. The engines going to the shop for a new impeller and carb cleaning/tune up. I am wondering about modifying the Stern piece he added to heighten the motor.DSC06387.jpgDSC06388.jpgDSC06389.jpgDSC06391.jpgDSC06390.jpg

Pboddy66,

Looks as if our boats look alike in many details. You have your hands full as much as I do when you start to restore it. These guys on this forum have a lot of good ideas when it come to the restoration of these old boats and I would gather as much advice as you can from them. I e-mailed Clayton about getting some information from the owner of the McKenzie Boat Co and still waiting to hear back from him. When I do I will share what I have. Do you know what year or model your boat is by chance? When Clayton e-mails me back he may have information that tell us by the serial# what year and model it may be. Good luck with your project and keep in touch.

Re: McKenzie Boat Mfg. Co. ?????

Adam,

I have information on the original windshields. Taylor Made is the manufactor for mine anyway and I have a catalog from them that I had to order because these type of requests for windshields don't come along too often. Mine is what they refer to as a "Holiday"windshield. As soon as I find the catalog I will scan it and send it to you. All it will require you to do is take a few measurements to make sure which windshield is yours and match it to the catalog. Theres only a few so it fairly easy. I live in Evansville,IN so I'm not too far away from you. We come down to eat at Patty's quite often some day I would like to stop by and see your boat if its not inconvienent. Post some pics I'd like to view it.

Adam,

I have the word document from Taylor Made windshields so you can measure and order a new windshield for your Cherokee boat. Its too big to attach on the forum so if you let me know your e-mail address I will send it to you. If anyone else would like it let me know and I will send it to you too. Like I said in my previous post mine was a "Holiday". It is the original windshield and I know it fits. Its amazing they still make them. Hope they have one that fits yours.

Gamefish 59,

I really appreciate you giving me this info and yeah i don't mind at all that you look at it when you come in to paducah to patty's i hope you will be able to give me some more ideas to do to it im only 22 years old im just trying to get this thing done. i had it sand blasted because i had to have some surgery done about 2 years ago, but aside from that i would really like some ideas or pointers to add on to the boat i will post some pics on here and give a detailed description of some of the things i want to do to it and see what you and others think im open to any suggestions. i did send you a private message the other day with my personal email address attached. thank you

I also have a 1959 15 foot Cherokee and mine is powered by a 50 HP Johnson "Fat Fifty". That is the nickname given them. They suck gas like crazy. I have known other people to put 50 Hp Mercs on them but these boats are super heavy as you well know and every bit of horsepower helps. I have attached information on windshields for the Cherokee boats which some people have inquired about. Like everything else on these boats is was difficult to find so I thought I would share it with everyone thats interested.

Re: McKenzie Boat Mfg. Co. ?????

want put a 75hp motor also.. ive seen a 59 cherokee with a 59 75 hp evinrude on it. i would guess that a newer model motor would weigh a lot less than the original outboards...im gonna go for the 75hp evinrude on my cherokee! good luck!

My 1981 Evinrude 90 weighs under 300 pounds. Might even be as low as like 275 or something.

Brand new Evinrude e-tec 90 is: 320-335 depending on options. New Yamaha 4 stroke: 380.

I think a 3 cylinder 75 would be a blast on that boat. One of the old V4 75's might be a bit heavy. The 70-75HP triples are noted for having a great power-to-weight ratio.
