Re: McKenzie Boat Mfg. Co. ?????

I had a 12' Mckenzie Cherokee when I was in College. It was powered with a 1958 Merc. Mark 28 and set on a Mastercraft trailer. It had a cable steering wheel that was mounted in an oar lock and to a rib in the bottom. Had a 2" block on transom and the Merc. remote throttle and shift control. I mounted a 1/2' plywood on floor and at speed rode it on my knees. Was very fast.(in excess of 30 MPH) Boat was very well built and strong. Caused no problem with overpowering.

I would like to find a one of these that could be restored. It's on my bucket list.

GDcarpenter - i bought an old '64 cherokee avalon. my brother wanted the 90 horse evinrude and i wanted the boat to put my 9.9 mercury on to fish hp limited lakes. I saw yours and thought that blue looked good so painted it blue and gray. It looks so nice I want to keep improving it. The 90 was way too much motor for this 16' boat as it would start to roll under acceleration. the windshield is in good shape other than a butcher cut the middle window in half. You can still read "water bonnet" on the side. The guy in the boat is 6'6" making it look littler than it is.... Looks very similar to yours.
