My son and I launched at Boulder Marina at 6:00 this morning.. Fished a little with 5 other boats in the launch area for nothing..Lots of shad and birds but little or no fish..Ran over to Hemmenway area for nothing..Went up Vegas wash to the end and there was some shad but no fish..About 8:30 a huge boil erupted in front of hole 33..We charged over there with a couple other boats and had a good top water bite until 9:00..Ended up with 23 stripers in the 2-3 pound range with a couple pushing 4 lbs..Off the lake at 11:00, filleted and boat at home around 1:00...Great morning..:D:D

Thats the kind of days that make you forget about the days you get skunked good for you. How is the ramp at boulder it has been many years since I have launched there and it was always real shallow I have been thinking about a mead trip we usally fish havasu but the last couple years is not that great plus I really miss going to mead. What lures were you throwing we use to throw castmaster and did pretty good, again Glad you guys had a super trip....:)

MRS,

I launched at both Boulder Harbor ramp and at Hemenway this year. Hemenway is the one known for shallow, but your boat should not be a lot of trouble. Boulder is deeper and I have never had a problem, you'll be fine. No Marina there any more. Lake Mead Marina is now semi-attached to Las Vegas Boat Harbor and both are adjacent to the Hemenway launch ramp now. Clear as mud?

Hey QC, Thanks for the launch info. it has been a looooong time since I have been back to mead. Use to launch at (vegas wash) and stay on the lake for 2 or 3 days and just sleep on the boat. Would go into vegas wash marina and have dinner and drinks at night and boulder for lunch. Hemenway if I remember right was only two or three lanes wide and if you remember what my boat looked like it was on that same boat. I really need to do a mead trip soon, here is our new old boat now take care and we do look for you when we are on havasu.

Out of morbid curiosity, I have to ask you Lake Mead guys a question. I read on here that the level fluctuates up to 100' in depth. Is this true? If so, how do you launch when the lake drops so much? I live in Northern Michigan where we have mostly concrete launch ramps and the lake I fish fluctuates MAYBE a couple of feet. Now it's a little low from historic levels, but it's up from 2 yrs ago.

I can only picture what our ramps would look like if the lake fluctuated more than a few feet, and wondered how launch ramps are handled there?

Thanks.

Take a look at this thread post #25 and you'll maybe start to get it. Helps when your lake starts at 400 ft. deep :D . . .

I just flew over the Hemingway launch on the way to Midland Texas from Vegas. Only difference is there aren't any boats at the docks like in the picture in the link. We've got launches that look like that on a few of our reservoirs in Oregon but not that deep. At Mongold on Detroit lake, there's a secondary launch ramp about 30 feet below the main ramp. You would never know it was there in the summer.
