Hi, i was wondering how u measure a boat, like to tell if it is 16', 18', 20.5', etc... I am looking at a Baja, no info at all from owner, it was his friend's boat, and his friend passed away, so no knowledge at all. I am digging up the paperwork also, he wants $1,000 for the boat, and it has a Johnson 150hp Seahorse V6 outboard mounted. The motor runs, but when u "nail" it, it almost shuts down, then revs up. So piston rings are no longer existent, hehe. No worries, i can rebuild engines, just need to know info about boat and motor. Only info i could get in the 10 min. i was there was motor number, and i only got the model number, i think, it is as following: T150-790. Since i had nothing to write on, the 'T' might hav come after the 150, not sure anymore. Thx for any possible help. Mike.

Re: Measuring boats

Well, the outboard info has nothing to do with the length of the boat it's on, so dunno where you are going with that.
The title will state what model Baja it is and the official length is usually in there also....i.e: a 1986 Baja 184 SunSport is officially 18'4", and on the Ohio title it will say 18' for length.
There is also the old fashioned method of using a tape measure to divine the distance from bow to stern.
If the boat doesn't have a title it's worthless here in Ohio, dunno what your local laws are.

Re: Measuring boats

Well i just added the motor info to see if anyone could figure the year and model so i know what to order. Ya, in Mississippi, all you do is drive to the capitol, Jackson, and go to DMV-WFP and give them serial numbers from boat and request a title. 2 weeks later, title arrives in mail. Boats in Mississippi for some reason hold their value, even tho there are more in MS than there are in Texas, Alabama, and Florida combined. We ended up with all the Katrina boats. My boss was buying 32' all the way up to 76' for less than a thousand bucks. Then rebuild and resell. I went ahead and bought boat today. Thx for the help, but if someone could help with the engine number that would be great. Thx, Mike.
