Does anyone know if a Fluke 88, automotive style test meter, can be used to measure the engine rpm of a 3 cyl. Johnson if the spark plug wire inductive pickup is used?
The Fluke 88 does have the capabilities of taking info from both 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines, but when I tried to use it yesterday the numbers I got back seemed awfully high and bounced around quite a bit. I have used this meter for this many times before and it has been compared to other tachs so I know it's accurate.
I guess I'm wondering if there is a spout connector or something that needs to be disconnected in order to get a good reading. My motor is a 1980 70hp.
I started it for the first time since purchasing it. It fired right up, and now I'm trying to do some fine tuning before mounting it on my other boat.
Thanks,
Alan
