Measuring running temp

Where exactly should I point my infrared thermometer to determine correct running temp? Everywhere I point it I get a different number? Thx

Where exactly should I point my infrared thermometer to determine correct running temp? Everywhere I point it I get a different number? Thx

If I point the meter on the thermostat cover it was like 125-135. The top of the thermostat housing was about 150. Cylinder head was all over the place from 90 to 197 at different spots.
