OK, I've been told more than once that I need a "mechanic". I've relied on arm patches, word of mouth and framed certificates. These have not worked for me because my 4th mechanic tells me I need a reman motor because of water in my No.2 cylinder and poor results on a leak down test and replies here on this forum have again told me other diagnostics should be performed prior to shelling out $4400.
Is there a mechanic referral system or certification body out there that can direct me to a mechanic that will methodically diagnose my issue?

Man is it late or what! If I could cuss I would!
Can an automotive mechanic diagnose my motor issue?
Do I sound desperate or what?

Thanks Don
Sorry for Solicitation. I'm really frustrated. My boat presently sits at one of Mercury marine's dealers. The initial marina was also a dealer. I will try to call Merc for some direction.

Re: Mechanic referral for Lake Hartwell or Atlanta area

Talked to lady at Merc today. Great information. She said the heads should be pulled with the manifolds and examined prior to buying reman long block. Said they should be able to tell me where the loss of pressure is occurring on the leak down test (exhaust, intake or rings). She implied that if it is rings it may be more cost effective to go with reman long block. Cautioned me to additional costs for replacing parts removed from my motor (manifolds,etc.).
I will be presenting this info to the service manager at the marina tomorrow.
