I have a 1986 5.0 liter mercrusier with alpha one drive. Last season picked up garbage bag on lowr unit. Really overheated motor. Melted exhaust boots to the point of leaking water, melted flaps ect. Removed heads and had remachined, replaced all melted parts.Motor starts up fine and idles great. But will not rev over 3100 and at that rpm temp climbs. Never gets hot when idling. Im wondering if the thunderbolt ignition module is not letting the timming advance? It was bolted on riser and melted alittle. Any thoughts? THANKS

Re: mecrusier overheating

There could be bits of flaps/shutters trapped in the exhaust, could also be pieces of the impeller in the water passages.
