Mecury Black Max 175, which year?

The plate of the Serial Number was missed.
Here is the casting number on the block. It was located on the port side on the front section of the block assembly

969-9078-C3

Top bearing housing 1159-9642-C
HOUSING, Driveshaft - Black - X-Long (#3503-813563-C)


Anybody know the year of this motor?

Thats a 2.5 casting...lokk on top of block for quarter sizes data plate with serial # stamped in it.

I could not find any plate on the block.

BTW, the Lower END CAP Assembly is: 1156-6311

there is a build date stamped in tha block. its at tha base of number two cylinder on tha "block half". kinda right behind tha bend of tha advance timing arm. its 1/8" numbers. m/d/yr. might be hard ta see but its there. havin' a hard time postin' pictures. mabe somebody here can do it....

Thanks Dukedog. One trick I have been doing is, copy the picture you have, make your posts of what you want to say first, then go back and edit your post and paste your pictures. If you paste them before the edit I seem to get the little box where it should be a photo. But pasting them after the original post, it turns out like my post above.

I know it's not the best method, but for how things are working around here right now, it seems to be working for me.

I checked the welch plug, but it's flat, no numbers on it.

I checked it carefully more than 3 times, no date number found.
Another clue I found is the Oil Tank. It's number is 99443-3. Hope this helps.

Never seen one without at least an attempt at it but it is MERC. so no surprise!. Last and justa a "maybe". Paint stamp on tha starter? Might still be orginal !!!
