MEKP vs MEK

Can I use MEK instead of MEKP when using ploy-resin on stringers and transom
I have a gallon of resin left that I want to use it .I have gallons of MEK ( without peroxide ) ,and wondered if I can use that
let me know what you think

No, they are not the same thing. MEK is a solvent similar to acetone while MEKP is a polyester resin catalyst. An experienced chemist with the right tools can produce MEKP from MEK but not guys like us. Buy the catalyst from the same place that sold you the resin. Protect your eyes when dealing with this thing specially when you puncture the tube and never look directly to it when puncturing or squeezing it. Don't let anything or any concern of any kind make you ignore or forget the eye protection googles and always make sure you have fresh water source near by your work area reachable within seconds just in case.

Ok .Thanks for the advise. I figured it was different ,just wanted an idea from someone with some experience.
I have purchased MEKP from the marine shop with more resin.

JAMN' Mantis, you will certainly smell the different instantly as well. Another great reason to not get any on you. Wear gloves and especially eye protection. I never got any in my eyes and don't even want to think about that. :eek:
