Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

I was out Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'm taking the day off today to go to the race track! I agree with everyone else, too many drunks and twice a year people. Have fun today!:

those days seem to bring out all the "boat drunks" and inexperienced boaters I have ever seen, and the ramps are a joke....I like going out Tues. thru Fri. myself, hardly any traffic and better fishing. although I have just sat at the local ramp for a while and have a good laugh with all the people going nuts.

I love boating on long weekends. The river here is so huge that I never feel cramped. Boat/people watching just add to the excitement of being on the water.

Thanks CBKev... Life's getting back to normal.

We went out yesterday and surprisingly it wasn't as crowded as we expected since we got a break in the rain. The lake levels are up at least a foot after the foot of rain we had last week. Managed to clock 55 miles on Harris and Eustis with a side trip up Haynes Creek before the afternoon boomers chased us off the water. It was a great day out and the tubers and skiers did their thing in the middle and the fisher dudes were near the shore as usual.

Well I went out on Saturday and Sunday (went to a BBQ today:D) and once on the water I had no problems. On Saturday morning when I got there I floated the boat off the trailer and walked it down the dock and tied it off. When I went back to park my truck I noticed somebody trying to load their boat on MY trailer! It actually was a mistake and he was very apologetic, but there sure were a bunch of empty beer cans in the bottom of his boat.

the wife & I were out all 3 days and had a blast:) - Grapevine Lake(just North of DFW airport) is very busy -Scott's Landing Marina was packed as was the "sand bar' at the NW end had over 50 boats today- lots of people and boats to see. Its not yet the "party cove" like on Lake Lewisville-aka Lake-O-Death. Only a few hot girls dancing on the bow :cool:and beer bongs. we keep the Wellcraft in a slip and just take it easy-no problems. it is too crowded for fishing on most weekends unless you beat the jet skiers and wake boarders early in the AM. I think with the bad economy most folks are staying close to home for the holidays. I even took Mom & the family out to eat at Lil Pete's on the boat for Mother's Day.
Sure there are some tards out but don't let them ruin your day.

I went out for about 5 hrs memorial day, and the water was a bit busy, but not crowded. The weather in NH was absolutely perfect, and my boat ran perfect as well! Now I gotta get some fishing gear!

We were visiting friends on Sat/Sun but really lucked out yesterday. It looked like it was going to rain in the morning and I think that kept a lot of people off the water. There was no one at the ramp when I launched which was great. It turned out to be a beautiful day.

On Saturday, we went to the "good" lake (as in good fishing, good marinas, good ramps) and it was insane. All of the cabin cruisers and wake board boats made for a very choppy day.

Monday, we went to the "not-so-good" lake (semi-crappy ramp, no marinas, sucky fishing), which is never crowded, but I was still surprised by the volume of traffic.

I know it is after the weekend now but thought I would chime in anyway.

It wouldn't stop me, but then again we put in at a private ramp that I can see from the back door. Hardly ever have to wait!

It will just get a little bit rougher out on the water and I keep clear of any boats that I don't know.

I would not think about going to the local river on the holdiay again! Did that last memorial day. It was so busy that had people directing traffic at the ramp and I had to park the truck almost 1/2 mile away!

We were out Saturday and Monday.

Had a blast! Mostly we sat beached upp at a sandbar kids had a full 5000 inning baseball game. (really it was the longest single exibition of baseball ever) GF and I watched game and watched boats go by. Only one drunken Jetskier made any trouble but water cops took him and his jetski away fairly quickly.

Awesome times just watching boats and tubers. Lots of kids lots of fun!

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

We went this weekend and had a great time. Now that we have young ones, and a house a 1/2mile from the launch, we get there early and leave early. Yesterday we were on the water by 8:00. Launch was empty, tons of parking, water was glass. By nap time (~1:00), the launch was a zoo, the parking lot was crazy, and the water was all chop. Only crazy drunk people we saw were the early morning, "twice a year", fishermen in their unregistered tinny. The constable took care of them at the ramp.

Quick gripe: Why can't the twice a year people figure out the dual lane concept at a launch. Yesterday's launch zoo would have been much better if the twice a year moron's would figure out the courtesy dock does not mean park your boat in the launch lane so nobody else can use it, and of they figured out that a two lane launch is for two people to use simultaneously!!

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

we hit the local lake/neighborhood ramp sat. it was great, we avoided the crowds and anchored in a quiet spot.

the big lake/municipal ramp is a mess. 4 lanes of mayhem...esp when a storm moves in like it did sat and sun. a buddy went to the big lake sat and said it took 2 hours to wait in line for his trailer with 50 other boats...in the rain. no thanks.

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

We were out from Friday afternoon till Monday midday so we avoided the big crowds at the ramp. The only downside was on Saturday. It turned out that the White bass were running on the Wolf river so it was wall to wall fishermen. None of them even remotely understanding the concept of "Navigation Channel".

Nothing more annoying than coming around a bend in the river and finding a pontoon boat anchored right in the center of a 50ft wide channel with a half dozen lines cast out to each side. Apparently I'M the idiot for interrupting their fishing.
Next year I'm bringing the pressure washer along to use as a water cannon.

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

I was surprised at the low number of people on Grand Lake in OK. Normally there are all sorts of people out there from 40-50ft yachts to 17ft bass boats. It was busy taking the cousins tubing in the bass boat, but nothing too bad. Only a few jet skis that pretty much kept to their own. The threat of storms (which never really amounted to much) and down economy probably kept a lot of people off of the water. Oh well, we had a good weekend!

Great weekend to people watch......it always amazes me to watch the 21 year old "dude" pull up to the ramp with his 2009 Mastercraft being pulled by his matching 2009 Ford 350 Supercrew Cab with a lift kit.....OMG, where did I go wrong in life?. (at least, my wife was hotter than the skanks he had on board)

HAHAHAHA...LOL....Witness that one first hand on Sunday morning....a guy unloading both Seadoos right in the fat middle of the ramp. Everyone was pretty pleasant, we simply just awaited for him to finish.

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

When we had the deckboat, we would avoid holiday weekends like the plague. Always took the week after off and still was a bit rough.

Last Saturday, I picked up the new ride. We planned to go out every day, but torrential downpours killed 3 days. So now, we have no qualms about going out, regardless of how busy the lake is.
