Okay per Ktbarrentine question and suggestions, I went down and had a buddy hold the entire outdrive up on it's fender:confused: I took the u-joints and turned them CW and it rotates.

I also tried to start it without water, and it cranks, but won't start up or turn over. at first when trying to start it, their was a click, long pause, than another click, long pause, than a "engine that's trying to start but doesn't .

Could this be a battery issue or starter? idk

If it is turning over the battery is ok. It could be a connection issue somewhere though.

I thought the same thing , but their was no issue before. what could have gone wrong? could it be the starter, sounds similar when you are trying to crank a car and i get that same noise

When you took the spark plugs out to inspect the cylinders, did you try to turn the engine over with the starter. If not then, it would be worth a try.

and it cranks, but won't start up or turn over.

This is a bit confusing and I hope you can clear it up... "cranking" is the same as "turning over". Need to know: is it "froze" or does it turn, but just wont start?

Martine, lets try to clarify some lingo because some things are mixed.
If the engine "cranks" this tells us that the engine is turning over. So when you say it cranks but will not turn over - This is a contradiction.

From the above statement I take it your engine will crank and turn over but will not hit or fire, or the key is turned it starts to crank but the stops. If your having trouble that it starts to crank (or turn over) and then it stops and will not crank then check the battery. Make sure your battery is fully charged and load test it if you can. If you can not load test then put a meter on it and measure the voltage. Leave the meter on it and try to start and watch the meter reading. Take the reading and let us know.

Thanks ALLDODGE, This is exactly what I am saying. I will get better at this boat jargon, lol but yes, that's what it is doing. I have charged the battery overnight and will retry tonight. Thanks

Okay, hers is what happened, Please don't laugh at my southern drawl, I get it sometimes, but I thought it was gone now :)

95 Glastron SSV 175 won't start - YouTube

Ayuh,.... Take the zip-tie Off the lower cable fittin' at the outdrive, the restriction on it is causin' the interrupt switch to stay engaged,...

Yer confusin' the shift interrupt switch, with the neutral safety switch, which is inside the controller,....

The neutral safety switch will stop the motor from turnin' over on the starter, aka; won't start "in gear"....

The shift interrupt switch, kills the ignition, aka; No spark,...

I'm aware of this, the zip tie is only their because while transporting the boat, I did not won't it to fall off. Did you hear the technician speaking on the video? I may have blocked sound sorry if I did.

Yes... Heard the tech, but I think he was adding to the confusion, although he seemed to have the cause diagnosed. You should curl up with the stickies at the top of the forum while you are contemplating your maintenance actions (the "adults only" and the other one)....tons of good info, like EXACTLY how the shift interrupt system works.... Check it out:

Best of luck!!!
