Sounds like and electrical problem. What is the serial number of your motor? If you have a points and magneto system, it is most likely either points, condenser, or coil. If you can duplicate the problem, and determine which cylinder is not firing (perhaps by shutting it off immediately when it is doing this and then inspecting the plugs) you can swap components from one cylinder to the other one at a time and see when the problem migrates to the other cylinder. This can save a bunch of money just replacing parts at random.

Of course, before you do anything else, clean and gap the points and put new plugs in. Note which old plug comes from which cylinder, they may tell you something useful.

If the flywheel has never been off, that might be good news. The part of the points that rides on the cam on the crankshaft will wear over time, and the points will close up. Your problem could be as simple as cleaning and adjusting the points--for your sake, I hope so!

Be sure to torque the flywheel nut to the proper spec when putting it back on. If it isn't tight enough, you can shear the flywheel key.

Visually inspect the coils to see if they look melted.

Post if you run into any snags--the old 110's are sweet motors!

Tips on removing and re-installing the flywheel.

When using the harmonic puller to remove the flywheel, use a bungee cord to keep the flywheel from "flying" away. When it finally "pops", it gives you a good scare and dropping could break it.

Now, for re-installing it, be very careful to torque it down as per Service Manual....... too much or too little will cause lots of problems....... been there before.

Good Luck......CF
