Merc 100hp starting issues

Hi I have a 1989 100hp Mercury outboard and have some starting problems. From cold I can turn it over with choke and it generally burbles into life with no problem, but a lot of blue smoke. After a few seconds of running it generally dies and further attempts to turn over the motor, with choke are fruitless.

I have pumped the fuel line before turning it over, but I have no idler throttle on my morse control unit :/ so cannot get the revs up a bit on the initial start.

Two weeks ago I had the exact same problem (just bought it) and cleaning of the (old) plugs fixed it for a day ? it ran with no problem.
I have ordered some new plugs but am wondering if I have a fuel issue too? It seems like with the consecutive turnovers, there is no spark ? wet cylinder or retarded spark?

I would be grateful for any advice and where I should start investigating.

I would start by investigating your controls. That's crazy you don't have neutral throttle. You need it. Either fix or replace. Replacing the spark plugs is not the answer.

Ok, I put some new plugs in and she is running like a dream - idling no problem but your right, strange that there is no out of gear manual throttle adjustment....oh well I suppose I will look for another control unit in the long run.
