I looked at a Merc 110 to buy today.
My last concern is that I've heard that the 7.5 and the 9.8 merc are the same motor. I looked around but couldn't find any identifying marks that indicated the horsepower. It just says "110" all over it. The serial # is 439XXXX if that matters.
Any way to be sure that it is the 9.8hp? Or is the 9.8 the only one marked "110"? The serial number makes me think it's a '76. But it looks like teh 7.5 and the 9.8 both have their own series of serial numbers.
