merc 115 carb ....pic, please LQQK

1977 mercury 1150 115hp inline 6 cyl. <br /><br />just rebuilt all 3 carbs and have a question, when i was done, i had 3 holes that had no plug in them, thought i lost them, but had these 3 lil "plugs" with holes, kinda like a jet...so i figured they must go there. but doesnt look right. manual has no clear pic. could somebody tell me if this looks right. the brass plug at the top of the float chamber on the left.....

My older inlines have different carbs and my Seloc manual isn't real clear either but those may be your back drag air jets. Hopefully someones else can clarify this.

Have you tried the exploded views over at the Mercury Parts site? Here's a link. <br /><br />There might even be a parts listing for those.<br /><br />Just a shot!

Mike, My service manual identifies the part you circled as a VENT JET. I copied the following paragraph as it seems to be related.<br /><br />THEORY OF OPERATION-BACK DRAG CARBURETOR<br />This carburetor is basically the same as<br />the sidebowl carburetor It has one additional circuit that lowers the atmospheric pressure<br />when the engine is run between 2500 and 4500 rpm. The effect of this circuit is a reduction<br />in fuel flow at midrange-an aid to fuel economy. The lower pressure is obtained by an additional port in the carburetor near the idle discharge tube an AIR JET in the float bowl cover restricts the incoming air thus lowering the atmospheric pressure in the float bowl.<br />Hope this helps.
