Hello, One of my lines blew for the power trim on my 115 merc (1980) and after replacing the line I filled the resevior to the max. I don't know if I was to do this with the motor in the up or down position so I did it with the motor down. Now the trim only raises about 15 to 20% then shuts off even with the lock engaged or dis-engaged, and with the vent open or closed the results are the same.
I don't know if it makes a difference but the pump calls for SEA 20 but a guy around here said it would be ok to use hydrolic jack oil so I did.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks...

Have you check the fluid levels after trying it, on my old Force I had to top off the resevoir 3 times before i got all the air out of the system, (after rebuilding the main lift ram) good luck

I am guessing that you need to bleed the air out of the system. Since I don't have a book on that model I don't know the procedure.

Re: Merc 115 power trim problems

You need to bleed the system some more and always fill the resivior with the motor in the full up position. If this is the old system (rams on outside) there are bleed screws on both the top and bottom of the rams, if you use them to bleed the system then you need to remove the rams from the motor with the hoses installed and pivot them to use the bleed screws on the bottom. Make sure the resivior stays full and have some oneelse actuate the trim switch and open the bleed screws slowly just until all air bubbles stop. Be careful the fluid is under pressure.

Thanks for the reply, there are two screws on the top and bottom, one is an allen key type that is offset from the center and the other is flat and is located directly on top and on the side of the rams. Would you know what ones are for bleeding? And also do I fill the resevoir with the motor in the up position, let it down then bleed it on it's way back up?
