Merc 1150 help

Hello all. It has been some time since my last post, but find myself again in need of greater knowledge. I recently acquired a Merc 1150 thunderbolt with power trim and ptt pump. The motor looks to be in good shape but needs some TLC including a new lower unit. The old one is freeze damaged and the case is split. Easy enough though.. should be able to get the case of my 90 to fit. The 1150 is pictured below. Serial #36503427 What year is it? my Seloc doesn't say.

In regards to the power trim system and pump. How do I service it? how do I fill and drain it? What fluid should I use in it?

I tried to attach photos but can't upload them even with a resize... any tips?

The manual you attached does not appear to cover the style of pump and cylinders on my motor. The pump is remote... not mounted b/t the cylinders.

Lower units from inline 4 or 6 motors from early 70s to late 80s will fit your motor. IL4 gearcases may have different gear ratios.

Normally those PTT units take 5W-30 motor oil. However, Dextron II/III ATF is fine as well. See if you can determine what is already in there, and top it off.

Just noticed the s/n size. Can you check it to make sure that is the correct number? Yours has 8 numbers but the standard is 7.

Sorry, The number is 3650347. It is on the Tilt/ clamp bracket on the front of the motor.

The knob is missing,supposed to be on the 1/4" exposed threaded stud that is below the signage.There are two screws on top of the reservoir the lower one is for filling and the upper is for venting.You can use a funnel to fill it up or take the pump assembly off your quart of lower unit oil and screw one end into the fill hole and the other on a quart of regular oil.Loosen up the vent screw or remove it while you fill her up to the top of the fill hole.Before you hook up the lines to the pistons run the unit a couple times to flush out the system,then refill.

Would anyone have a picture of the correct knob? or suggestions on how to replace it?

You can probably "lock" two nuts on the stud and turn it that way. In most cases it gets put in the locked position and stays that way.
