Merc 150. 1985 or '89???

Looking at a used 1985 Ranger with a Merc 150 Black Max (no markings for XR-2 or XR-4 model). The serial number the owner gave me is 6569782. He tells me he was told by a parts guy that it is an '89. I look at the chart at maxrules.com and don't even see that number sequence on there. It jumps from 644... in 1984 to 661... in 1985, and it looks like in 1986 they went to an alpha character at the beginning of the s/n with the '89 models starting with a 'C'. Can anyone help me with identifying this engine? Thanks!

My 1985 Mercury 150 Black Max serial # is OA167545. Wouldn't that mean yours is an earlier production '85?<br /><br />Dave
