this container keeps getting low causing me to fill it to make beeping stop.
my motor is a 1998 model with a 3 gallon tank on boat. is it possible for the oil to sludge in the 3 gallon container causing a blockage. Or is it more likely that the check valve is bad by tank in motor. how can I check to see if the 3 gallon tank is pressurized?

Re: merc 150 efi oil container on motor

If you loosen the cap on the external remote oil tank immediately after running the motor for a few minutes and then turning it off, you should hear the pressurised air escaping from the tank for a second or two. If you do not hear any air escaping when you loosen the cap, you likely have a faulty crankcase check valve , an air leak in the hose between the check valve and the remote oil tank, or the cap is not sealing.

If you do hear air pressure escaping when loosening the oil cap, then you may have a plugged screen in the feed tube inside the tank or other obstruction in the line between the remote oil tank and the tank on the motor.

It is unlikely that there is a pressure leak in the line between the remote tank and the motor or you would see lots of oil seeping out somewhere.

These are my thoughts anyway... Good luck.
