Merc 150 outboard year???

The serial number near the bracket is 6010145. I am having a hard time finding this on the lists (as found in the FAQs) to identify the age. <br /><br />Is it a 1982 engine????<br /><br />Can anyone help? <br /><br />Thanks,<br />Dan

Are serial numbers located in more than one place? I know they are commonly found on or around the engine bracket. Are they anywhere else? I'm told that the engine I'm looking at is a 1990, but the serial number I see doesn't match that. The engine is in good shape and its cheap, but I wonder if maybe the bracket was replaced???? I guess if it was, it wouldn't typically be replaced by an older bracket.

Could be a new head on an old bracket. Sometimes the serial number is stamped behind the starter.
