Water temp. gauge, How to

Ya know, I don't have a water temp gauge and I probably should . I have a 2004 2302 with a Merc 150 saltwater 2 stroke and would like to put one in can anyone let me know how or where to hook it up to the engine...I'm not a very good mechanic you know

Check you heads and see if there are senders already in the heads. If so, then you need to trace the brown wire to the dash and install a guage. Go over to the Telflex site, they have instructions and diagrahams on how to. I have a guage and sender, wish you were closer, but are across the country from each other. If you do not have a water pressure guage, that would be a better investment, both would be nice.

Thanks for getting back to me! you'll have to excuse me but I don't know what to look for! (senders). What do they look like, and will there be wires from them to my dash?:redface:

The temp sensor is usually on the (left) port side head, just below the 1st spark plug. There is a false hole there and the sensor fits in it and has a single small bolt holding it in place. There should be a short black wire going to ground, a tan wire working its was around the block into the wiring harness and then on to the dash. Likw I said earlier, go to the Telflex site and they show excellent diagrahams.
The sensor on the (right) starboard head is the overheat sensor, there is only one wire there and when the engine overheats, the ends pops out , (like a vaccum seal loosening on a jar or bottle) and makes contact with the head metal and completes the circuit and sends the alarm to the horn/buzzer.
