Hi everybody i have a question that I hope somebody can help. Went fishing last weekend Motor ran fine everything seemed ok. At the end of the day when I was washing the boat on the trailer I noticed a hose hanging down around the lower unit. Never noticed it before. Does it connect to anything? I followed the other side and it seems to be going in to top part of the engine. ( didnt remove cover to see) But the other half of the hose is what Im asking about where does it go. I dont see anything it can connect to.
Someone had told me that it was the speedometer hose.
But my guages only read RPM's. and it was working fine.
Any ideas?

Any ideas what it could be or if that was an option for someone that had a speedometer?

There's a speedometer pitot built into the front edge of the lower unit. A hose barb on the top of the lower inside has a small hose connected to it that goes through the mid with the shift shaft when you put on the lower unit. that hose then connects to another like it leading to the speedometer with a hose barb splice , then is routed up, maybe through the cowling, but not always, but it eventually gets into the harness bundle and goes to the speedometer.

What you have hanging is probably part of that rigging.

hope it helps

Thanks John for your reply. It does run along side the shift shaft on the lower unit. But I cant see where it connects to. On sunday I'll bring a mirror and see if I could see that barb you mentioned down that opening. Now does it matter if its connected or not? Or can I just plug that hose?
Thanks again

The hose takes a turn and goes to a plastic barb connector about an inch in front of the shift shaft. Unless you can see around corners, you won't see anything.

If you look, you'll see about an eigth inch hole in the leading edge of the lower. If you blow into the hose, you'll feel it coming out that hole in the lower.

If you don't need it to run a speedometer, just cut it off short, plug it and leave it. It will not harm anything. If you skip the plug, you'll have a little stream of water squirting out of it.

hope it helps
