I'm replacing water pump, including pump base and I'm having some grief with reassembly.

Following my crappy downloaded manual (first mistake) I have removed the pump base and copper water intake tube by sliding them up the drive shaft. I have pulled out the shift shaft, removed the e-clip (normal position - just below pump base) and unscrewed the shift cam.

Now I'm ready to reinstall. My problem is not knowing the procedure for reinstalling the shift cam and shift shaft. It is in forward gear. The "manual" does not give any detail on reassembly of the shift shaft and cam.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rick;

I just looked at the service manual for a 92 15hp and the procedure is there.

Can you give us the serial number and model number if you have it?

Great - thanks. Serial # is OD 255814. I believe that it's 93 but don't have model #. It is short shaft - no extras.

Rick;

It is a 1993:

15 D182000 - 0D280999 1993

from here:

http://www.storesonline.com/site/573683/page/609739

This is a service manual from 1994. When you go down to and select Lower Unit, scroll down to page 33 "Installation" and see if this helps.

What manual do you have?

Gerry

Here is the parts listing for your engine if you don't have it:

Gerry - that's perfect - thanks very much! I'm embarrassed to say that I downloaded a manual from a seller off e-&@$ and it's totally worthless. It was scanned at not a very high resolution, so the illustrations were illegible and many words were garbled. Furthermore, the instructions that I could read were totally shallow and full of gaps in information. In any case, I won't go there again.
Thanks again - I should be able to find my way through this quite easily (even though almost every bolt on this Merc is salt-siezed and needs to be drilled out)
Cheers

Rick;

Glad it worked out. Pity about those crappy scanned manuals by the crooks that are just out to steal your money. Hope the rest of your engine goes well.
