Hi

I have a mercruiser 188 also known as an (888) V-8 Ford 302 small block engine in a 17' aquarius invader bowrider.

I am trying to get plug wires for it...

What make and model and year of automobile engine does the ford 302 small block exist in. I have tried quoting a 77 mustang, 77 Thunderbird and no good.

I am trying to get spark plug wires and I can't seem to figure out what make model and year the engine is from.

I know its from around 1977 and I got an ignotion coil to match when I asked for a ford turino 1974, but the plug wires did match in shape and structure but they were too short.

any input on what make and model to ask for at the counter would help

I went to the local Farm & Fleet.
Look in the Autolite catalog for marine plug wires.
That's where I picked up the wire for a 888.

I bought the 8cyl MSD universal wire kit. You make your own cables it quite easy and is very high end wire. The set cost about $39.

By the way did you have to pull the manifolds to change the plugs??

I have a 73 888 and had to make a special socket to get the plugs out. I could see no other way then to pull the manifolds in the end.

Just need a box end wrench turbo.

When I repowered my Gulfstream (OMC stringer), I used a late roller cam 5.0 ltr (late 302) with the GT40P heads. For combustion chamber efficiency, they rotated the plugs down and straight out. Even tho they are the best heads ford ever made, hot rodders hate them because the new plug position runs into their downturned tubular headers.

The are great for a boat, with the upturned exhaust manifolds, 'cause now I can stick a socket straight onto them. Still have to use the box end on my 888 tho.

Hmm thats interesting. I just could not get on them with any wrench I had. Have to take another whack at it some other time I guess after my knuckles heal back up...
