Re: merc 188

Is that a 4Cyl (Possibly a 488) or an 8 cyl engine (possibly an 888)
Don't remember seeing a 188 before.

Re: merc 188

If it says 188, it is probably a model 888....
188 is the HP.....It is prolly a 302 Ford, just like mine ;) :) ......JK

If it's a 188hp it's a Ford 302 w/2bbl carb.

Haut,

What year is your Searay? I've still got the Larson with the 888, but broke down and bought a SRV220 so I could see some water this summer...

Re: merc 188

The few, the proud, the 188/888 owners.

Yup, the 188/888 mercruiser is a Ford 302, made between '72 or so and '77. Early ones tended to have 300cfm Holley carbs, but the '76 and '77's I've seen had Rochester 2GC's (including mine!).

Mine is in a 19' Glastron deep V, but it isn't 100% stock.

If interested, there was also a Merc 233 that was a 2bbl 351w/#1 drive, and a 225 which was a 4bbl 302, but I think it only came in inboard and TRS flavors.

What my boat needs is a flying bridge, I thought about it but it's a nice ride inside so no complaints, do you ever cruise our waters?
