Merc. 2.5 Horsepower? Weight?

Hi guys. Ive always been an OMC guy, but I was thinking about building a 2.5 Merc. Can anyone tell me what horsepower(s) was available stock? Also approximate weight? Thanks.....

I believe the horsepower ratings were 225-280, depends on the year and model.

thanks. any ideas on weight? my allison xb2002 has a warning label stating that it is not reccomended for any motor over 2.5 liter and 440 lbs. I know i'm over both weight and liters now, thats why I was wondering about the lighter 2.5

Come on now...If I wanted to learn something about an inboard, I would have posted in that forum, and I would have described it as a Mercruiser 2.5L. I was asking for information on a MERCURY 2.5L. I wrote Merc. 2.5 in the outboard forum thinking that you or someone else could provide info. on an outboard (not a inboard). I like the way you used the BOLD print, it really got your point acrossed. Yes, this is a Mercury OUTBOARD forum and i'm in the right place.

Reason i'm wanting information is this. I believe my present motor is too heavy for my boat. I know the 2.5L mercury (outboard) is considerably lighter. Am interested in knowing the horsepower and weight of a stock 2.5L Mercury outboard. Thanks Guys.

I think the confusion started when you said you wanted to build a 2.5

I now guess you want to buy a used 2.5 litre Merc outboard, otherwise you could just look at current sales literature.

you can get product literature for a whole range of products and years, (and also their owners manuals as a separate selection)

For example, Outboard Mercury 2004
Optimax 135hp, 150hp and 175 hp are all 2.507 litre V6 and weigh about 195kg, that's about 430 to 440 lbs
