Merc 200 optimax alternator

need to know, will a 200 Merc Optimax still run if I disconnect the battery.
Like a car, the alternator runs the engine ??

Not an OB expert, but if you disconnect the battery from a modern car or inboard motor your going to blow the alternator

There are some expensive components on outboard motors.----I see no reason to do this experiment !!----Things like the ECU may not even be available.

It will run until it takes out the voltage regulation you have to replace the alternator to fix it

Can also tell you from experience alternators are hard hard to come by Sunday mornings
