I get a "beep beep beep" on My 200HP merc and was told it is an oil sensor. Insalled an oil sensor on the port side but still get the beep. Motor seems to run fine and doesn't overheat but the beeping is scarey and would like to find a fix for it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated - Thanks, Ron

Barber,
What Year is your motor? Was the oil tank on the engine full, half, or empty? How was the oil level in your remote tank? Does this beep when you turn the key on and the engine is not running or only when the engine is running? What were you doing when this first happened? Also, don't run your engine anymore until you get this figured out. If you must run your engine go to walmart and buy a portable tank and hose and run premixed oil and gas so your sure your getting oil into your gas.

i wouldnt run the motor till i made sure it is getting oil. you could mix the fuel and oil till you make sure you are getting a false signal. i would bet that the oil in the resovoir is gelling or the screen in the pickup tube is stopped up, the oil resov. at the top of the motor should be full of oil all the time, the tank should pressurize and keep it filled, if not then fix it, your money , fix it now or refinance it later good luck ron

Thanks for the reply, My son-in-law is up north at the lake and this happened to him and I related to you what he told me yesterday, he is not running the motor! I will contact him today and get back to you with all the info I can. i just bought this boat 2 weeks ago, it's a 1996 20ft Procraft by Brunswick, I have the ser. # and mod. # of the motor and will get the exact yr. for you from the Brunswick site.

Again, a big thanks to the both of you for replying.

See if the float in the resevoir on the motor is stuck. That will cause the beep, beep, beep.

The motor is a 1996, oil res. is full, screen in tube is OK, beeps when you turn the key on and engine NOT running.
We're gonna try unpluging sensors 1 at a time until we no longer get the beep.

I would try the onboard oil tank first. Trace the blue(I think) wire from the cap back around the side and unplug it and see if the beeping goes away. The (oil?) sensor that you replaced is probably the motion sensor for the pump. It works off of a magnet on the pump shaft and simply tells you the shaft is rotating, thus pumping oil to the gas/oil mixing valve below the oil pump.

As far as we can tell it is the heat sensor, must be defective. Can't figure out why we got the intermitant beep suggesting something to do w/the oil and not the steady beep telling us it's the heat sensor. Any ideas on that??
Anyway, we ordered a new heat sensor, should have it installed in a couple of days and will let you know if problem is solved.

As I am told a steady BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP is from a heat sensor and the Beep beep beep is the oil sensor if your motor has an oil resevoir.

Re: Merc 200HP motor going

We finally got this problem solved. It turned out to be the module . Seems the ground somehow became unplugged and shorted it out. Replaced the module and everything is OK. Module cost 210.00. Ron

To explain in more detail: it was the "warning module" causing the beeping and if not taken care of the engine will over heat and could melt the nylon gear in the middle of the engine and dump all of your oil, then you will have a real problem.
