I recently had to do a water pump on a Merc 25 Bigfoot 4 stroke outboard. It has an unusual shift disconnect to remove the lower unit. LOTS of people ask this question over and over: "How do I disconnect the shift linkage to remove the lower unit on a Mercury BigFoot 25 4 stroke?" I searched by Google and found this old iBoats thread which was helpful.... minus the berating of the OP about reading the manuals. The manuals are not very helpful in this specific instance. Especially the aftermarket ones which are almost useless.
