Merc 25hp starting problem

our 2002 merc outboard stopped starting at the end of last season when using the ignition switch.....we can start the motor with the pull cord with the key in the "run" position and it starts right up and runs fine.....we just get nothing when we turn the ignition key.....we think it might be the ignition switch which was replaced 2 yrs ago.....ideas please......thank you

Amost sure to be electrical, ladydi.

Go to the Engine FAQs Forum and do "Outboard won't start". It will lead you to the tests to isolate where the trouble is.

My money is on a poor connection of the battery ground cable to the engine block.
