Hello there, 1978 galaxie 22xl. Merc 260 chevy 350.
You have all been very helpful so far.
Backfiring at high rpm, plugs look brand new.
Advice was to pull head and look for hole in piston, or stuck valve.
Pulled head this morning and found the #2 cylinder that read zero compression, lo and behold the valve is stuck open.
Piston has no hole in it, and looks fine.
This is the problem correct? It's the small valve that is stuck open.
I am taking head to shop on Monday, they said $75 bucks to repair and replace, that sounds reasonable doesn't it?
Bought new gaskets at Summit Racing, and bought a fuel pressure gauge to install at line at carb base, that is a good idea, correct?
I am going to put everything back together and have a local shop set timing and do valve job too.
Please let me know if I am on the right track, I want to hit the lake next week.
Thanks!!
