merc. 3.0 gimbal replacement

i am pulling out my gimbal bearing, does the race have to be changed , i have both but didnt know if it was necessary, if so is there also a grease seal behind the race and will my puller damage that if im not careful

Yes, you need to pull and replace the complete gimbal bearing. The seal (for keeping the dirt out, not grease in) clears any slide hammer/puller jaws.
If I can find the Merc service bulletin again, I will post it. It tells about replacing the complete bearing and not doing only the inside, like some sites do.
