Re: Merc 3.0 has no spark

http://www.dutchforce.com/~eforum/index.php?showtopic=3916 <br />I'm not going to condone the way I have tested for power off the coil, it wasn't a good idea. But apparently it is a much worse idea to test your 120v household outlet. <br /><br />Ok, enough coming from me waterone1. I've decided to post a topic over at the electronics forum. I have the link at top and your free to go in and argue with those fellas all you want. I'm sure they would be happy to do so. If you go to google and type in "electronics forum" it is your #1 hit. So it's the most commonly used electronics forum as far as I could find. Why don't you give me your comments.

Re: Merc 3.0 has no spark

Snowrider.... First of all I am an electrical engineer by trade and still work in that field everyday. Working on boats and collector cars is a hobby and by accident a second income. A few days a week I visit electricians on jobsites to make sure that they are following my designs properly, and have seen some weird and unsafe practices. Safety is something that is very important to me, I tried to point out that grabbing a coil output in an engine room is not safe. If you had let that comment stand without challenging it, that would have been the end of it. On the surface, the voltage v/s amperage argument may seam valid, in this particular case it isn't. Let me make it clear, I do not think either is safe....however, a trained electrician, wearing socks and boots standing on carpet or tile or wood who grabs a hot lead (110VAC) and feels a little tingle, and uses this as his idea of verifiying a circuit is hot, will most likely not suffer any injuries. Again, I do not do this my self and do not condone it. Contrast this with a weekend mechanic, who may very well be wearing shorts, who is in a tight cramped boat engine room and by that nature may have one or more body parts in direct contact with the grounded engine block. He is then (while most likely sweating) grabbing the coil output wire which is firing 30,000 volts several times per second. There is serious danger there, most likely will not kill you, but by any stretch of the imagination cannot be considered safe. Possibly we were just missunderstanding each other....I hope. I did not call you an idiot. I said ( and I stand by it)<br />" that for anyone who has been shocked.......to say it is not dangerous, is an idiot". By the way I do agree there are some fine people on the electrical section of this forum, I would hope that they would not sanction grabbing coil wires, but if some of them do...that is their business. If I was around any of them and they told someone to do it...I would say they were an idiot.
