Hi all,

Trying to set the timing on a friends merc 3.0LX (1997 alpha) with EST.

We had to replace the timing cover and the new one does NOT having the tab with the timing marks on it.

Is there any kind of a mark on the block to go by or do I need to find TDC and make my own mark?

Thanks!!

Re: Merc 3.0 Timing Question

OK. Figured it out....

After looking at pictures of what the timing tab should look like I figured out where one degree btdc was on the timing cover...
When I looked at my friends timing cover I found a line on it in the exact location I had determined was 1 degree btdc.
Funny how I thought it was amazing that it had a acquired a perfectly straight scratch without damaging the paint.....

So, if you get a cheap.aftermarket timing cover, the line on it is 1 degree btdc.. : o )

Hope this helps somebody... our boat runs much better now!
